FOUNDER

Empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities

Suravaru Anjaneyulu Reddy

FOUNDER

A Visionary Leader with a Compassionate Heart

Suravarapu Anjaneyulu Reddy’s commitment to disability welfare did not emerge from a seminar or a policy document. It emerged from direct, visceral experience of what exclusion does to a human being — and from a personal refusal to accept that exclusion as inevitable.

Early Life & The Moment of Decision

Growing up in Prakasam District, Suravarapu Anjaneyulu Reddy was surrounded by the reality that would shape his life’s work. He witnessed first-hand the neglect and exploitation of individuals with disabilities in his village — hearing-impaired children unable to communicate, intellectually disabled young people shunted to the margins of community life, families carrying their disabled children as a secret shame rather than a celebrated member.

What he felt in those moments was not pity. It was outrage at the injustice — and clarity about what needed to be done

Education & Professional Formation

Suravarapu Anjaneyulu Reddy pursued a Special Bachelor of Education (Special B.Ed.) degree with a focus on special education — giving him both the theoretical foundation and the practical methodology to work effectively with children with intellectual and sensory disabilities.

He then spent several formative years working at two of Andhra Pradesh’s most respected special education institutions:

  • Uma Manovikas Centre, Kakinada — where he gained deep expertise in working with children with intellectual disabilities, developing individualised education strategies and therapeutic approaches
  • Ongole Manovikas Centre, Ongole — where he applied and refined his skills in rehabilitation, communication development, and family counselling in a district-level setting

The Return Home — And the Founding of SKR

When Suravarapu Anjaneyulu Reddy returned to Prakasam District, he returned with more than a qualification. He returned with the knowledge that what he had seen in Kakinada and Ongole could and should exist in his own district — and that he would build it if nobody else would.

In 1999, he founded SKR. He started with no building, no recurring funding, and no institutional support. He started with 10 children — and the absolute conviction that every one of them deserved to be there.

Twenty-five years later, those 10 children have become 10,000 annual beneficiaries. That conviction has become an organisation. And Suravarapu Anjaneyulu Reddy remains, as Secretary and Chief Functionary of SKRPWS, the driving force behind its continued growth and its refusal to compromise on its founding purpose.
