What This Programme Does<\/strong><\/h2>\n

For a person with a physical disability in a rural Andhra Pradesh village, a wheelchair or a pair of calipers is not a convenience \u2014 it is the difference between being confined to a room and participating in community life. A hearing aid is the difference between silence and conversation. An artificial limb is the difference between dependence and work.<\/p>\n

The Aids & Appliances Programme of SKRPWS identifies differently-abled persons across villages in Prakasam District who lack access to essential assistive devices, conducts awareness camps on their rights under the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Act 2016, and ensures they receive the devices they need \u2014 at no cost. The programme also links beneficiaries with government schemes, medical services, and disability certification processes they are entitled to but often unaware of.<\/p>\n

Awareness Camps \u2014 Knowing Your Rights Is the First Device<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Before any device can help a person, they must know it is available and that they are entitled to it. SKRPWS conducts awareness camps across 20+ villages annually \u2014 bringing disability rights education directly to the communities that need it most.<\/p>\n

  • Camps conducted in 20+ villages across Prakasam District each programme year<\/li>\n
  • Education on the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 \u2014 rights to education, employment, and assistive support<\/li>\n
  • Information on government schemes: ADIP Scheme, SADAREM disability cards, National Trust programmes<\/li>\n
  • On-site screening: identifying individuals with undiagnosed or undocumented disabilities<\/li>\n
  • Referral services: connecting individuals with ENT specialists, orthopaedic surgeons, and district disability offices<\/li>\n
  • 947 individuals reached through awareness camps in the 2024\u201325 programme year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
